Top Video Poker Myths

Video Poker and just plain slots in general have always been surrounded by myths. All of them are not true, but yet are still heard around the world. These often cause people not to play video poker or to play with an incorrect mainframe.

This video poker machine is due to hit

Video poker mythThe first myth would have to be that the video poker machine is due to hit. This is one of the biggest myths in all of gambling that is out there.

Computer programs use a RNG, random number generator computer chip or program, that is located in the machine or computer program.

That computer chip generates 1,000 different combinations every second, and because of that one hand does not affect the next. So it is a myth that because the machine hasn’t won for a long time, it is due for a win.

Always bet the Max Bet

Video poker bet maxAnother myth is that betting the max is best. The machines are programmed with a house advantage, so betting the max every time will almost always mean that you will lose in the long run.. The max bet for most Video Poker machines is usually five credits.

As with other casino games, you will find that you get hot and cold streaks of winning and losing. So the obvious plan is to bet more coins when your on a roll.

Exception

You can bet the max all the time if you are trying to win most progressive jackpots. Then it would be beneficial to make sure you win big that one time you do get a Royal Flush. A lot of places will not pay a progressive jackpot to a non-Max Bet.

Timing affects which cards you will receive.

Myth number three is that you can control the cards, as in if I press the button right ... Now, that this will change the card and possibly give me a better outcome. This isn't true. While the game is based on a random number generator, it isn't waiting for you to press the button to lock in the card you will receive. The RNG randomly produces a "shuffled deck" at the start of each game.

People will take stop watches to the casino, and time it to the exact moment when they would push this button. The machine or computer program has no recollection or knowledge of the time at which you press the button.

Casinos/Online Casinos don't pay out as much over weekends or the holidays

Finally, I've heard a rumor that casinos would intentionally have their video poker machines pay out less on weekends and holidays. Again, this basically goes together with the timing myth. The RNG has no idea of when the weekends are, and or the holidays.

The pay outs would be the exact same as they are on any other day it just basically depends on your luck for the day, and the symbols that the RNG picks out for once you place your coins in, and pull the lever.
